LIGNO®... YOUR NATURE

“Naturalness” as a Corporate Philosophy: How Our Values Are Reflected in Our Products

Our goal is to maximize the structural, technical, and design potential of this renewable raw material. Wood is an extraordinary material, but simply using it is not enough. What matters most is its origin and how it is handled. With “LIGNO®... Your Nature,” we’re reaching out to designers and craftsmen who recognize that wood is too valuable not to make the most of it.

Lignotrend has been processing locally sourced wood for construction projects throughout Europe for over three decades. For us, however, responsibility does not end with the raw material we use—whose natural qualities we strive to preserve as much as possible for use in construction. The sustainability characteristics of our wood products are specifically verified, among other things, through the criteria of the natureplus® Guideline 0211. The properties of LIGNO® products are documented in our own environmental product declarations, and their listing in the DGNB Navigator confirms that the requirements for the certification of sustainable buildings can be met.

As much as necessary, as little as possible: Our cross-laminated timber (CLT) rib and box-girder elements embody a conscious use of materials. For us, efficiency means using wood purposefully where it serves a specific function. The result is CLT elements for sustainable timber construction that are precisely tailored to the specific requirements of each application.

Naturalness, because Lignotrend takes a holistic approach to sustainability

Sustainability can very quickly become an abstract concept and is often used loosely. For us, naturalness begins with material integrity. We strive to use wood that has undergone as little processing as possible—in other words, as close as possible to its natural state. At the same time, it’s not enough to simply say, “We build with wood, so it’s sustainable.” You have to take a closer look:

Where does the wood come from?
How is it processed?
What other materials are used in the product?
What emissions are produced?
What documentation is available?

For us, sustainability begins when these questions are not ignored but addressed holistically: The environmental product declarations for all LIGNO® products transparently outline their environmental impacts throughout their entire life cycle.

Our Commitment: Tested and Certified

At Lignotrend, this is not just a promise, but has been verified at the international level through the following certifications—demonstrating a commitment to planners and an architecture that embraces environmental responsibility.

What's the story behind “LIGNO®... Your Nature”?

In the trade magazine Modulør, which serves the architecture, construction, and real estate industries, Marketing Director Ralf Harder discusses the company’s philosophy and how it shapes its solid wood products.

FAQ – Information on Corporate Responsibility

Why does Lignotrend talk about “naturalness” instead of “sustainability”?

For us, sustainability is often too abstract and is used indiscriminately. For us, naturalness begins with material integrity: We use wood that has undergone as little processing as possible—as close as possible to its natural state. Instead of resting on the assumption that building with wood is automatically sustainable, we go one step further. We prioritize regional sourcing, a mindful approach to wood as a building material under the motto “as much as necessary, as little as possible,” and rely on certified quality and transparent documentation—disclosed, among other things, through Environmental Product Declarations (EPDs) for all LIGNO® products.

What evidence supports our claims regarding the naturalness of LIGNO® products?

The sustainability characteristics of our wood products are specifically verified, among other things, through the criteria of the natureplus® Guideline 0211. The characteristics of LIGNO® products are documented in separate environmental product declarations, and their listing in the DGNB Navigator confirms that the requirements for the certification of sustainable buildings can be met.
