Swissôtel Kursaal Bern
Alpine and old town view combined with highest comfort
The Business Hotel Swissôtel Kursaal Bern is one of the most renowned hotels in the Swiss capital. Located in the city center, guests can enjoy a magnificent view of the Alps as well as of Bern's historic old town. With around 5,000 m² of meeting space, the building complex also serves as a convention center for up to 1,500 people.
In 2020, the Swissôtel Kursaal Bern was extensively renovated and redesigned as a new member of the Accor Group. Innsbruck architect Nina Mair and her team have taken great care of the existing building and created a cozy atmosphere in all hotel areas. With a contemporary, minimalist architectural and formal language, Mair underscores the building's important role for the city: interior design, fixtures and furnishings are characterized by timeless style, thoughtful details, high functionality and the use of various natural materials - first and foremost real wood.
The entrance area with the reception and the lobby were also designed with great attention to detail. Here, wall panels with LIGNO® Akustik light in lively oak ensure naturalness and good sound: "In all our projects, good room acoustics play an enormously important role, because apart from light, acoustics determine the well-being of the users in the room the most - also in a hotel," explains Nina Mair. "In a hotel lobby, discreet conversations should be able to take place while several people are in the room - so we had to ensure short reverberation times and high speech intelligibility at the same time. With the Lignotrend panels, this was achieved very well," the architect continued.
Because the room height of the existing building was already very low, she decided against cladding the ceilings with wood and used the acoustic panels exclusively on the walls. "As wall cladding, the real wood panels create a great, natural atmosphere in which guests can enjoy their stay in complete peace," explains Nina Mair. "The rhythm of the regular molding profile we chose divides the large areas in a very harmonious, calm way."
